  • Sweet. Tech support is perhaps an under-appreciated job, but I hope it treats you well enough.

  • I think I've seen a first person mario video before but they really put the effort into making this one look cool.

  • The little fan in my graphics card has been going bad as of late and making a completely inappropriate amount of noise for it's given rotational speed so I done removed it from the heatsink. In it's place I've strapped a 120mm fan awkwardly in it's place and found that it actually lowered temperatures. Actually it lowered…
  • Pretty much what I was getting at. The concept of a "used game" is sort of flawed in truth, and Steam effectively throws peoples' concept of a used game under the bus by not really having anything resembling a physical copy. Whether the PS4 or Next Xbox support used games or not may be a bit of a temporary issue. Online…
  • Indeed. Talk is that the XBox will block them, the PS4 will not. I'd point out that Steam blocks used games. Chew on that statement for a bit...
  • Unified memory is required for the addressing part, so it's sort of the first part of it. No matter. My hardware geekery is satiated and I don't have to be disappointed in AMD for missing a big opportunity so all is well. I didn't watch anything related to the PS4 event, so I'll just assume that video was completely…
  • I took that to pretty much mean they're integrating with Facebook like pretty much everything else and assumed this was a thing much of their target demographics would like? It would definitely have to be optional, and a real name should be limited to only be visible to known friends, but even in that case, known friends…
  • I hear tell they have confirmed unified memory addressing for the PS4. Good on AMD. That's the HSA thing I was talking about. So PS4 is like Kaveri, but with eight little jaguar cores instead of 4 steamroller cores and a beefier and somewhat custom GPU portion that more resembles a radeon 78xx. Oh and a GDDR5 memory…
  • I'm a PC hardware nut so the tech specs were really the most interesting aspect to me. Except this mostly just confirmed the rumors so there isn't really anything much exciting about it. Now I just gotta wait and see how good Jaguar cores end up being since they're really an update of the old bobcat cores used in the likes…
  • Yeah...my last statement was probably wrong in some ways and I can't back it. I woke up with a headache and was not too happy this morning. Anyway...I'm not going to disagree about Chrome, but I haven't had issues like that yet, but I'm not exactly entrenched in complex web development at this point so we'll see. I don't…
  • I'm almost half done with a book...
  • It's mostly just sad. They put a lot of work into Presto and it'd be a great layout engine...if developers actually coded to the standards. Don't blame propriety engines for hassles. Webkit and Gecko have been made to support awful code due to being open sourced. Trident is forever blamed for being "bad" even if it does…
  • Not that this is a big deal to anybody else, but...aw crap.
  • As long as the power doesn't go out and the internets were still there I'd be ok with that about once a year. A power outage in particular would be unfortunate.
  • I suppose it makes sense to leave this here since I was just sorta talking about it slightly. Chipmaking stuffs.
  • *shrug* Odd forms of hyperbole are fun. If you tell yourself something is super awesome even if it's only kind of neat you'll remember it as being pretty great. Do this often enough and life starts to feel a little more awesome. It's a working theory that I might have just made up right now.
  • Climb out a window and dig a network of tunnels through the snow. Maintain a stock of snowballs, build a fort and defend your territory from would-be invaders. Also, invade nearby forts to expand territory. Standard snow day stuff I should think.
  • this.blow(my.mind);print(my.mind.status); OUTPUT: Blown
  • Not really faster actually. Processors and stuff are made on disks of silicon material (referred to as wafers) and a smaller process basically just etches the processor patterns smaller so they get more of them on a disk. Since everything is tighter together they can usually lower voltages to cut back power consumption a…
  • Well Intel's Haswell is coming out this summer on it's fancy 22nm process. They will follow that with a Broadwell shrink/update on their upcoming 14nm process in 2014 (probably late...at least Q3 if not Q4 if I were a betting man). THAT is supposed to be followed by...Sky Lake or something? Which is supposed to be a new…
  • I never seems to get around to posting much here...probably because my crazy speculation becomes taxing if I attempt to write out my thoughts. It gets long. Instead I'm just going to leave a video here. One Mr. Newell talking about interesting stuff. This is also pretty long, so settle in if you're gonna watch it.…
  • Hi john! Going for a PhD? Get both the PhDs so we have to call you Doctor-Professor?
  • Panels missing. Everyone panic a little!
  • Thank goodness somebody remembered! I totally forgot about this yesterday until the end of the day and I was like...oh yeah! I knew there was SOMETHING else important that coincided with Jakey's birthday!
  • It's ok. I have my own Chrome issues. Many of them moral hang-ups, some just preference, and a bit just general annoyance with Google. I'm gonna stop here. Not really the best place to chatter about browsers. I got some better threads for that.
  • That is so sad it's embarrassing. Quite fitting for this thread.
  • They do! At least they aren't still using IE6. If they were, they'd be dead to me and thus not exist, therefore nobody is using IE6 anymore.
  • Interesting stuff. I kind of like it. On a different note I am slightly irritated by SoundCloud's awkward attempt at font embedding that badly messes up all the text in my browser of choice and moreso surprised the site doesn't seem to work at all in IE9. Their new site needs more work.
  • It's like some kind of weird montage. ...aaaaand now I'm hearing the montage song in my head. Good job self.
  • Huh. I guess I can kinda understand why that one wasn't on TV.
