  • I hate the Legendaries. They can all go to hell. I went to GameStop to pick up Deoxys for the PokéDex, but I seriously doubt I'll ever use it. Where's the fun in beating people down with a Pokémon you got at level 50? I'd much rather raise one from a babe, train it up, and kick those lousy Legendaries' asses. Now that's…
  • I have no doubt he'll move on past this story arc and get back to sentient Xbox controllers doing their best Bender/Marvin impressions. Maybe he already has, I haven't checked his site since I went looking for source art for panel 3 of my tasteless remix comic. I just know the change in subject matter and focus was enough…
  • Yeah, all this FFTA talk is making me want to start a new campaign.
  • FFTA is probably my favorite game in the entire Final Fantasy franchise.
  • I didn't realize people disliked the law card system in Tactics Advance. I thought it was a neat mechanism that kept you on your toes and forced you to balance out your party to compensate. Perhaps more importantly, it was integrated well into the game's story, especially when Ivalice's rulers ordered the judges to enforce…
  • Rapidash may not be the best Fire-type, but it's a speed demon with decent Attack value. Back in Blue version, when Wrapping moves disabled the opponent's attacks, my Rapidash was able to kick anyone's ass with Toxic and Fire Spin. It's also one of the best Horn Drill-ers in any version of Pokémon, since most other Pokémon…
  • Nowadays when I build my balanced Pokémon team rosters, I tend to leave out Grass-types. Too many common weaknesses, insufficient strengths. How often do you come up against a Rock/Ground opponent in two-player battles, or pure Water-types? But I'll always have a special place in my heart for them, and I still usually…
  • Ah yes, Nippon Ichi. La Pucelle and Phantom Brave were the other titles I was thinking of. All fine tactical RPGs.
  • Disgaea was on PS2 before PSP. Those guys made several games of similar gameplay and art style, though their names currently escape me. Paul's a big fan of those games, but they're kind of ridiculous in terms of gameplay complexity. Still awesome though.
  • The actual FFTA cartridge. It's a wonderful turn-based strategy game! But if you want something simpler, Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are good fun.
  • I have envy. Nicely done!
  • It's a tough call. Lady in the Water had movie critic-killing and Shyamalan as a Christ figure, but The Happening was just, well, nothing at all. It wasn't ambitious, there was no life lesson, the characters didn't develop or come to any meaningful revelations or change in any way... at least Lady in the Water was…
  • I didn't have Internet at home all of last week. And then I forgot one of the movies in the list, due to the aforementioned lengthy passage of time.
  • Your computer overheats when its heatsink is under 110º? I guess I am spoiled on well-designed Apple laptops.
  • Maybe we're unclear on our definitions of "overheating." Do you just mean the case gets uncomfortably hot? Because they're supposed to do that; heat emanating to the external case means it's being successfully sucked away from the sensitive internal components. To me, overheating is when the processor or what-have-you is…
  • A 90º F environment shouldn't have any bearing on a computer overheating. Modern processors routinely run around 180º F.
  • The best part is, that was on a cover of Time Magazine. The similarity to Goatse was just an awesome coincidence!
  • No. It's that bad. Also: Hee hee.
  • Consumerism is an art?
  • And also:
  • Of course art exists! I saw you draw it!
  • Gotta catch 'em all, baby. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, plant Pokémon. Oddish is the best Pokémon in the world.
  • I wouldn't say it's sudden. Your character does age visibly, and there is a steady gradual progression from starting on the left side to ending on the right. And there are lots of decisions to make in a gameplay session. Do you get together with the girl? She doubles your point-amassing with every forward step, but you…
  • I thought they did a good job conveying a message about the choices we make in life within very restrictive boundaries. In particular, I liked the distorting of events in the distant past (as memories fade) and in the far future (ideas not yet set in stone or well-defined). Powerful stuff.
  • While most commercial games probably don't quite reach that higher standard of "art", there are most certainly people out there making good use of the medium. Passage is my favorite recent example of game-as-art.
  • You will regret it. Maple Story is a timesink with which many of us have intimate experience. Pokémon rules. I'm getting one of these as soon as possible.
  • That doesn't make any sense! You can put your right hand down for the ???s while still holding the left Shift for the !!!s, and never have to hold the right Shift. Your method involves holding down more keys, which is (relatively) harder, not easier.
  • Why would you ever need to hold both Shift keys down?
